Capacity-Building and Development for the Implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing

Article 22 of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing provides that Parties shall cooperate in the capacity-building, capacity development and strengthening of human resources and institutional capacities to effectively implement the Protocol.

At its first meeting, the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties (COP-MOP) to the Nagoya Protocol adopted the Strategic Framework for Capacity-Building and Development to support the effective implementation of the Nagoya Protocol (decision NP-1/8).

At its fourth meeting, the COP-MOP agreed to revise the strategic framework in line with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF), the Long-Term Strategic Framework for Capacity-Building and Development to support the implementation of the KM-GBF and the findings of the evaluation and requested the Executive Secretary to prepare, in consultation with Parties, a revised strategic framework for capacity-building and development to support the effective implementation of the Nagoya Protocol, for the consideration of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation at its fourth meeting (SBI 4) and for adoption by the COP-MOP at its fifth meeting.
