UN Biodiversity Conference - COP 13

The Thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 13) was held in Cancun, Mexico, from December 4 to 17, 2016. During COP 13, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) organized a number of gender-related events, notably:

Rio Conventions Pavilion - Mainstreaming Equality and Social Inclusion half-day (14 December 2016)

This half-day programme explored available and emerging opportunities to advance social and environmental objectives at the national level, in particular through the implementation of the SDGs. From national policy frameworks to local action, this programme examined the value of participatory, inclusive and equitable approaches to achieve more effective and sustainable results for biodiversity, climate change and land management.

Side Event - Gender Dimensions in Wildlife Management (14 December 2016)

This side event explored the multiple and cross-sectoral dimensions of wildlife management, highlighting analysis and recommendations carried out by members of the Collaborative Partnership on Sustainable Wildlife Management (CPW). A fact sheet on gender and sustainable wildlife management was also released.

Side Event - Integrating Gender Considerations in National Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) (12 December 2016)

This event presented the results of three pilot initiatives on integrating gender considerations in National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). It discussed the relevance of gender considerations to NBSAPs, and ways through which gender issues can be integrated into NBSAP development and revision processes.
