Because the concept of “biodiversity” is not widely understood by people, the organizers have decided to keep the theme of the competition “open”, and to invite photos on biodiversity in general, rather than restricting it to the theme of IBD 2008. Organized by the Environment Service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment of Cyprus, the aim of the competition is, firstly, to provide an opportunity for teachers to explain to children the importance of biodiversity and, secondly, to help inform the general public of the importance of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.
