Case Studies

At its ninth meeting, in 2008, the Conference of the Parties decided to put more emphasis on the implementation of the programme of work on incentive measures through, inter alia, enhanced sharing of information on good practices, lessons learned, difficulties encountered, and other practical experience on its implementation. To this end, the COP requested an international expert workshop to collect and analyze concrete and practical experiences on the removal or mitigation of perverse incentives, and the promotion of positive incentive measures, and to identify a limited number of good practice cases.

The map below presents these case studies as identified by the third international expert workshop on incentive measures, held in Paris, France, in October 2009. In light of the request of the Conference of the Parties to identify “a limited number” of good-practice cases, the compilation is by necessity not comprehensive. In particular, the absence of a particular case from the compilation below does not imply that such a case could not also be considered good practice.

Technical series document number 56 also presents key observations as well as critical conclusions and consolidated lessons learned.
