Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)
Sustainable produced biomass is being addressed as part of the Agriculture Programme of Work under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The side event will help to - Provide an opportunity for discussions among the Parties, the private sector, government and civil society the challenges and chance of sustainable produced biomass for conservation and biodiversity - Highlight challenges and chance of EU Renewable Energy Directive for a sustainable biomass production in respect of biodiversity and climate change - Showcase ISCC: Development and implementation of a credible certification scheme for a sustainable biomass production - Promote transparent, participatory land use planning and management to ensure that expansion of biomass production does not threaten conservation targets, livelihoods and carbon stocks - Enhance importance of agrobiodiversity through adaptive management techniques, practices and policies - Raise awareness in the CBD community on existing processes for enabling sustainable biomass including, in particular, ISCC (Internatinal Sustainability & Carbon Certificaton) and the Global Bioenergy Partnership work.
