Analysis of the biodiversity effects of different policy options. A contribution to the TEEB report

Organizer
Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality

Date and Time
20 October 2010 16:30 - 18:0

Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) worked out 9 policy options that could contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of global biodiversity and a few ecosystem goods and services. Policy options are defined here as alternative pathways for policymakers along which to intervene and reduce drivers of biodiversity loss or increase biodiversity conservation. The results of PBL’s biophysical modeling and analysis are expressed in the impact of each individual option and for 2 smart cost-effective option packages on biodiversity, climate change, C-sequestration, inland water quality, marine and aqua-cultural fish production, food and wood production, and bio fuels. These results will be used by TEEB (The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity) for an economic analysis of the various pathways. The results may support the policy decision process on post 2010-target and measure setting, taking into account synergies and trade offs with amongst others climate, food, forest and development policies.
