CBD and REDD: Whose rights, who's wronged?

Organizer
Natural Justice: Lawyers for Communities and the Environment

Date and Time
20 October 2010 18:15 - 19:45

Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

Indigenous peoples and local communities are gaining increasing international recognition of their roles in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity under the CBD. At the same time, they struggle to retain similar rights under UNFCCC REDD. This side event brings together community representatives, NGOs, and the SCBD to explore the linkages between the CBD and REDD in relation to indigenous peoples and local communities and to discuss the challenges communities will face with their joint implementation.
