In support of the further development of the new CBD strategic plan, and in particular the post-2010 biodiversity targets and indicators, the GTI is called upon to provide input for its refinement and elaboration, especially relating to the proposed goal of widening and sharing of relevant biodiversity knowledge and technologies (draft target 19). Contributions for this side event from the GTI Coordination Mechanism covering several regions will focus on existing taxonomic developments and projects. These offer examples of assisting the possible implementation of the new targets, and on visions for future taxonomic contributions as effective capacity building measures for Parties and stakeholders to better meet the targets. A common theme for the presentations and discussion will be the taxonomic contributions towards possible reporting obligations by Parties under the new post-2010 targets and indicators.
