Sixteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice

CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF ISLAND ECOSYSTEMS. This side event will show the progress to date on protecting biodiversity on Mexican islands and the important advances on the related strategic planning. The event highlights major goals achieved by Mexico following a national approach in regard to the PoWIB and the Aichi targets for biodiversity. Lessons learned and the main challenges to maintain the positive trajectory on conservation and sustainable use of island biodiversity will be discussed in the presentations: Island Invasives, eradication and management: a context (Shyama Pagad, Program Manager, Invasive Species Information Management; and Manager, Information Services IUCN SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group, University of Auckland, New Zealand). An overview of the conservation and restoration of the Mexican islands (Alfonso Aguirre, Grupo de Ecología y Conservación de Islas. Mexico), and The recently published National Strategy for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Mexican islands (Eduardo Peters, Instituto Nacional de Ecología. Mexico).
