Side Event

Journey through Marine and Coastal Biodiversity – the Youth perspective

Organizer
International Youth Forum Go4BioDiv

Date and Time
17 October 2012 13:15 - 14:45

Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

This event – street theatre and presentation of the Go4BioDiv Declaration - is designed to take place on the Main Stage of the fair on the HITEX compound during a very prominent time, preferably in the early afternoon and on another date than the Go4BioDiv panel discussion on livelihoods (Side event request ID 2784). Go4BioDiv is an International Youth Forum, aimed at providing a platform to the youth to voice their opinion on the issues related to Biodiversity during CBD-COP as the global event of decision-making on biodiversity. 36 Youth Messengers from Marine sites all over the world have been involved in virtual discussions since May and come together in the Sundarbans, India’s marine World Heritage site, from October 6 to 15. The main element of this side event is an interactive and multicultural street theatre performance by the Youth Messengers of the International Youth Forum. The performance will have been developed during the live camp in the Sundarbans, directly before coming to Hyderabad. The experiences, wishes and worries of the young regarding the safeguarding of our marine and coastal environment and the (traditional) lifestyle connected to those ecosystems will be reflected in this performance. Street theatre is one way of creatively communicating biodiversity conservation. The street theatre performance on the main stage will be accompanied by other creative messages of the Go4BioDiv Youth like their declaration. The event will include a short interaction with a representative of the hosts of Go4BioDiv (MoEF) or another representative person. Parts of the street theatre will be presented also on other occasions during COP, but this main stage event is thought to be the most important and only presentation of the play in full length.
