Organizer
Global Environment Facility Evaluation Office & UNDP Evaluation Office

Date and Time
9 October 2012 13:15 - 14:45

Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

The independent GEF Evaluation Office will present the findings of the recent evaluation of the biodiversity focal area strategy of the GEF, which aims to provide an input into the development of a new focal area strategy. Furthermore, together with UNDP's Evaluation Office the upcoming evaluation of the impact of protected area related interventions of the GEF will be presented and discussed with participants. The focus of this evaluation will be on the extent of improvement of biodiversity conservation through protected areas, integration of these areas into improved landscape management and interaction with local communities and indigenous people. Both evaluations will feed into the Fifth Overall Performance Study (OPS5), which will be presented to the sixth replenishment of the GEF. This side event will provide an opportunity for COP participants to comment on the UNDP and GEF performance in general, as well as to provide suggestions on biodiversity related issues that could be taken up in OPS5.
