This side event will feature the launch of a new report from the CBD Secretariat and BGCI on the current status of global plant conservation. The report provides details of the value of wild plants both to the global economy and to local communities. It also provides an assessment of the conservation status of wild plants around the world, based on information generated through the mid-term review of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC). The report, published as part of the CBD’s Technical Series, also forms a contribution to the mid-term review of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and the fourth edition of Global Biodiversity Outlook. The side event will include a number of presentations that illustrate the importance of plant diversity and describe on-going work focused on the conservation and sustainable use of plants around the world.
