A large proportion of the forests in the Amazon lies into public lands. In Brazil, 75% of the Amazon are public forests (over 300 million hectares). The decision regading the regulation and administration of those forests is crucial to garantee its conservation and sustainable management. In Brazil a forest reform is being implemented and a new law is about to be approved by Congress defining how public forests can be managed in a way that remians forest and public good. The side-event will discuss the new forest law in Brazil in light of the other forest reforms that happend in other parts of the Amazon.
