PARTNERSHIPS FOR BIODIVERSITY
Organizer
CEBDS - Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development
Date and Time
20 March 2006 18:30 - 20:15
Several business sectors present direct or indirect impact on the biological diversity, such as the direct footprint, supply chain and financing & insurance business. Considering that biodiversity is the corner stone for sustainability of current and future generations, it is fundamental the integration of biodiversity issues into the management systems, taking concrete actions on biodiversity conservation. CEBDS (Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development), WWF-Brazil, TNC (The Nature Conservancy) and IIEB (International Institute for Education in Brazil) propose for COP 8 a side event to introduce the business initiatives for contributing to the CBD implementation, with emphasis to initiatives in partnership with other representatives from Govern and civil society, such as the Academy and NGOs. We will focus on: projects already reaching robust results, identifying accomplishments and difficulties observed during the implementation, discussing challenges like legal and financing constraints; innovative ideas and actions for contributing with the three objectives of CBD; and new opportunities for partnership created by the CBD implementation. During the side event we will launch a book describing the role of Business and Civil Society in the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity in Brazil, edited by CEBDS, WWF-Brazil, TNC, and IIEB.
