Presentation of the conference and cocktail. Together with the European Commision and some EU Member States, IUCN is organizing in September 2006, under the umbrella of the C2010, an international conference on Integrating Biodiversity into Development Co-operation - Support the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources. The general purpose of the conference is to better address biodiversity issues through EU development co-operation efforts, as well as helping developing countries to address biodiversity concerns properly through their development strategies. More specifically, the goal is to obtain political commitment to recognise biodiversity as a substantial pillar of development co-operation, and for concrete action to be taken to better address biodiversity concerns in development co-operation programmes and strategies. Participation: 350 participants expected representing both governments, parliaments and the civil society from the South and from Europe. Expected outcome: recommendations from the conference to the European Union, to be endorsed by the European Council.
