Traditional Knowledge Shared Among Indigenous Peoples in Brazil: implications on Prior Informed Consent and Benefit Sharing Policies

Organizer
Instituto Socioambiental & Ministry of Env. (ISA and MMA)

Date and Time
1 January 0001 0:0 - 0:0

Meeting
Third meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Inter-sessional Working Group on Article 8(j) and Related Provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity (WG8J 3)

Several indigenous peoples in Brazil share their traditional knowledge among themselves in different ways. This free flow of information, although benefic to the conservation of this cultural heritage, brings difficulties in stablishing prior informed consent (PIC) and benefit sharing (BS) policies, as far as representation and ownership are concerned. The goal of this meeting is to discuss adequate guidelines for implementing PIC and BS policies in these situations.
