Meeting
Eighth Ordinary Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 8)

Presentation of case studies and statements from farmers, representatives from public research institutions or public seed sector. Linkages/partnership between the formal (public research institutions, government agencies, academe) and informal (farmers, communities) seed sector promotes a valuable access and benefit-sharing model, where benefits are not only seen from the profit-sharing framework, but puts to good and actual practice an effective means for transfer of technology and capacity-building. Further, these partnerships help promote the rights of farmers to plant genetic resources, as well as agricultural biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.
