Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Adaptation to Climate Change Helsinki – Finland – Tentatively scheduled for September 2005: Invitation to submit the name of an expert who may be called upon to participate in the AHTEG, together with a description of his/her expertise that is strictly related to the mandate of the Group as specified in the terms of reference contained in the attached SBSTTA recommendation X/13. Nominations should be received no later than 15 April 2005.

Further to our Notification No. 2005-017 dated 16 February 2005, this is to inform you of the exact dates of the meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Biodiversity and Climate Change, which will take place from 13 to 16 September 2005 in Helsinki, Finland.

The AHTEG will hold its meeting from 13 to 16 September 2005 in Helsinki, with the financial support from the Government of Finland. One of its objectives is to produce the draft report on Integration of Biodiversity Considerations in the Implementation of Adaptation Activities to Climate Change at the Local, Sub-national, National, Sub-regional, and International Levels. A draft background document that will provide inputs for the Group to carry out its work in Helsinki is open for comments (to be provided in English only). The purpose of the review is to seek comments and observations on the scope and quality of the draft information presented, to identify gaps, and to obtain possible additional elements which should be included.

At its tenth meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 7 to 11 February 2005, the Subsidiary Body on Scientific Technical and Technological Advice decided, in its recommendation X/13, to establish an Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Biodiversity and Climate Change. After due consideration, taking into account the nominees’ expertise and experience related to biological diversity and climate change as well as to geographic distribution and gender balance, I am pleased to inform you that the AHTEG on Biodiversity and Climate Change has been established.
