Interface Dialogue Finance and Biodiversity

The Interface Dialogue Finance and Biodiversity (IDFB) brings together Parties to the CBD and financial institutions to work on transition to include biodiversity in all financial decision making and to support Parties to anchor this in the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. is an informal initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. It is set up in close collaboration with the UK and a number of European countries and The Interface Dialogue Finance and Biodiversity will run till COP15 process is completed with the adoption of the GBF. The dialogue is open for governments and financials that are interested. The IDFB started in September 2021 and is organized on a monthly basis till the adoption of the GBF at COP15.

During the negotiations in Geneva, preferably in the first week, we hope to organize an IDFB live meetup. The two-hour session will be for negotiators that have taken part in the IDFB to get to know each other, learn from each other in an informal setting and to take stock and discuss common ground. The event will also be used to engage more Parties, in particular from Africa, Latin America, Asia and from among Small-Island States.

Participants will discuss how finance and biodiversity can be better aligned and how the financial sector can contribute to this. Parties will also discuss how lessons from the financial sector can be translated into concrete improvements of the GBF. The event will also be an opportunity to discuss how the IDFB can be strengthened.

There will be keynote speakers/ guests from Parties and the financial sector that will discuss in an interview setting their insights and experiences in translating lessons from the financial sector to the GBF, and Parties that attend will be encouraged to discuss a number of relevant issues before the floor is opened for drinks and networking. Apart from Parties that took part in the IDFB so far, Party delegation leads on resource mobilisation will also be invited as well as and members of the financial sector that have been involved in the IDFB so far.
