In 2010, the Government of Japan established the Japan Biodiversity Fund as COP10 Presidency. The Fund has facilitated, funded, and supported a wide array of activities, including technical support for the development, revision, and implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Plans (NBSAPs).

In 2021, at the high-level segment of the first part of COP15, Japan pledged to continue its global support as a second phase of the Japan Biodiversity Fund (JBF2). JBF2 aims to contribute to the implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework (GBF), filling the gap between the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the post-2020 GBF seamlessly. The side event will share the objectives and planned activities of the JBF2. It also intends to foster momentum for the implementation of the post-2020 GBF with key partners of the JBF2; the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

In addition, Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ) will organize a webinar titled “Webinar on Resource Mobilization for the implementation of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in Asia-Pacific Region” in October 2022. The side event will introduce outcomes of the webinar including available resources for developing country Parties and other stakeholders.
