Aichi Biodiversity Targets

This session will aim to explore how the business and finance community can work with governments to implement an ambitious Target 15 successfully. We will do this by demonstrating the current use by business and financial institutions of frameworks, tools and metrics to assess and disclose their impacts and dependencies on nature (i.e., Natural Capital Protocol, SBTN, TNFD etc.), and by outlining what is needed from governments to scale up these practices.

The session will bring the voice of leading business, financial institutions and business organizations to showcase leading practices of assessing and disclosing impacts and dependencies on nature that business and finance are already taking and highlight the call from business and finance on the need for mandatory assessment and disclosure, to scale up business and finance action to contribute to achieving the aim of ‘reversing nature loss’. They will also address pathways for challenges, for example, the need to further standardize how biodiversity values are integrated in decision-making and disclosure, and improvement of access and availability to data on impacts and dependencies of biodiversity. Based on this they will clarify what is needed to create a level playing field for businesses and finance, including through support from governments to mainstream nature in their decisions and disclosure.

The session aims at giving the comfort and courage to negotiators that the business and finance community are emphasizing the need for and ready to implement an ambitious Target 15.

The main audience for this sessions are
CBD negotiators and business leaders.
