In 2016, GSS Carbono e Bioinovação (https://www.gss.eco/) launched at COP 13, in Cancun, Mexico, the study "Access and Benefit-Sharing Around the World: The Brazilian law contrasted with international regulations", currently published at ABS-CH website (https://absch.cbd.int/en/database/resource/50C78264-D414-0C2C-92A1-F11D1C99D411). The objective of the study is to guide mainly, but not only, the personal hygiene, perfumery and cosmetics sector on the mission to find which countries have already established ABS legal frameworks and help them to assess the main impacts and requirements to fulfill the applicable legislation.

8 years after the launch of the study, many countries have updated their legislation, published new rules and or matured the application of its norms. Having that in mind, GSS team prepared the 3rd edition update as of December 2021 to present at NP-MOP-04. The study is coordinated by GSS and this edition is sponsored by the companies Natura (https://www.naturaeco.com/pt-br/) and Croda (https://www.croda.com/engb).

Differently to 2016's event that had mainly the participation of the private sector, this year GSS intends to bring representatives of the government of Peru, Colombia and Brazil to exchange experiences on the execution of its ABS legislation, as well as the participation of Mr. Braulio Dias, former Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, who attended the first edition of the event in 2016 (a short summary of this side event can be seen here (https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=8IFpQ4wdHBk).
