This event will showcase innnovative approaches relevant to the implementation of the GBF, particularly 30 by 30 target. Specifically, the event will address: Biodiversity markets can catalyse investment in biodiversity conservation outcomes, providing a financial driver for projects such as habitat restoration. The event will explore how such markets can deliver benefits for landholders, investors and the environment. The involvement of Indigenous peoples and local communities will be essential to the successful implementation of the GBF. The event will showcase best-practice examples of this involvement, such as Australia’s Indigenous Protected Areas and Indigenous Rangers programs, demonstrating how combining Indigenous knowledge with contemporary science can boost biodiversity conservation and social outcomes. Achieving 30 by 30 requires a suite of different area-based management frameworks, including OECMs. The event will provide an opportunity to discuss lessons learned from countries in the process of developing or updating frameworks to recognise OECMs.
