Indicators will be central to monitoring the implementation of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and crucial to measuring progress towards established objectives. Parties have increasingly recognised the vital role that indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs) play in the CBD; it is critical that indicators related to the contributions of IPLCs are reflected in the monitoring framework. This side event will present key headline indicators, the state of data availability and methodologies, and discuss next steps for their operationalisation by IPLCs, Parties and collaborators.  

Objectives:

1. Report from the expert workshop on the monitoring framework for the post-2020 GBF (Bonn expert meeting) with regard to priority indicators proposed by IPLCs
2. Provide updates and ongoing developments in relation to indicators on land tenure and traditional occupations
3. Share information on the work of the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB) Working Group on Indicators
4. Propose next steps, processes, and further collaboration towards operationalization of the post-2020 GBF monitoring framework and indicators
