Post 2020 Framework

Join this high-level interactive dialogue on our shared post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework with Parties and the Liaison Group of the Biodiversity-related Conventions established between executive heads of the secretariats of the eight key biodiversity-related conventions:

  • Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
  • Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS)
  • Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention)
  • International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC)
  • International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA)
  • International Whaling Commission (IWC)
  • Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (WHC).

In line with their respective mandates, specific aspects of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework can be achieved in cooperation with or as part of the work undertaken through the different biodiversity-related Conventions. Therefore, it is vital to ensure synergies with and to further strengthen the effective and cohesive collaboration with the biodiversity-related Conventions to facilitate the implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, both at the national and international levels.

Further to the recommendations and options identified as part of past consultations, including the Bern I and Bern II meetings that took place in 2019 and 2021, Parties of the biodiversity-related Conventions reached a pivotal moment where opportunities must be identified to achieve true synergies and collaboration in the operationalization of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework through the implementation and monitoring of each convention.

Recommendations from the dialogue will be conveyed to the Governing Bodies of the biodiversity-related Conventions in view of their respective decisions to mobilize the Conventions on the implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
