There are a number of national examples that illustrate that integrating gender considerations into biodiversity initiatives leads to multiple benefits – social, economic, and environmental (CBD Secretariat, 2022). However, findings from the review of the gender plan of action (2015-2020) highlight that financing remains a critical gap to be addressed in the post-2020 period to ensure that gender equality and biodiversity objectives are met (CBD/SBI/3/2/ADD3). As such, the draft gender plan of action for the post-2020 period includes specific objectives and actions aimed at strengthening financing for meeting gender and biodiversity commitments (CBD/SBI/3/4/Add.2/Rev.2).

This side event aims to explore financing and investment options that can facilitate the gender-responsive implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework

Side event objectives:

  1. Examine the current gender-biodiversity financing gap that needs to be addressed for the gender-responsive implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework
  2. Explore options that can help to address the gender-biodiversity financing gap to deliver on biodiversity, climate and gender commitments
