Parties are requested to revise or update NBSAPs by COP16, including national targets in line with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), and there are some support programs for updating NBSAPs to act such as regional NBSAP dialogues. Seven regional dialogues have been organized so far, with support from parties including Japan through the Japan Biodiversity Fund.

Japan hosted the NBSAP Dialogue for South and East Asia in January 2024.Participants in the dialogue recognised that there are many similar situations and useful experiences that other parties have already encountered in the planning processes (with reference to CBD/COP/REC/15/6). We recognise the need to use these side events to share these experiences, as many countries are still in the process of revising or updating their NBSAPs.

This side event aims to share experiences on NBSAPs, including actions based on NBSAPs and lessons learned from holding NBSAP dialogues. It will not only contribute to planning, monitoring, reporting and review but also the understanding of the multi-dimensional approaches to GBF implementation that will be discussed at the SBI4 meeting. The event will also discuss future expectations regarding the results of the support programs.
