Target 16 of the Kunming to Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework recognizes the necessity of significant and timely progress to reduce the global footprint of consumption and overconsumption by 2030 in an equitable manner to achieve the KM-GBF’s mission to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. The side-event will focus on how the commitment to reduce the global footprint by 2030 and significantly reduce overconsumption in an equitable manner can be integrated adequately in NBSAPs. The side event will also provide an opportunity to discuss how actions by multiple players can accelerate progress on Target 16. Objectives: 1. Enhance the visibility of Target 16 in the KM-GBF implementation 2. Showcase impactful actions and initiatives of a wide range of organizations and businesses to reduce the global footprint of consumption. 3. Share and converge around key recommendations for governments on Target 16 implementation. 4. Bring together the growing number of stakeholders (CSOs, UN and Businesses) championing the reduction of footprint of consumption to lay the ground for potential further joint work, collaboration and partnerships. The side-event will create a space for interested stakeholders, including Parties, to share experiences, ideas, tools and approaches that can contribute to a successful implementation of Target 16 of the GBF, identify gaps and potential for collaboration and action. The event will be designed to be highly interactive and enable Parties and stakeholders to share experiences, existing tools and approaches as well as gaps and challenges on the implementation of Target 16.
