Freshwater Ecosystems (Inland Waters) have suffered the greatest loss of biodiversity in the last 70 years, and yet are the foundation of water resilience for people and nature and essential for adaptation to the climate crisis. 45 countries recognise this and have joined the Freshwater Challenge (FWC), committing to restore and protect rivers, wetlands and lakes as part of their NBSAPs, NDCs, NAPs, LDN and national strategies. This event will highlight how these countries are putting this into action, and how we have the data, knowledge and tools to ensure freshwater biodiversity thrives as our rivers are revived. This is a critical part of the peer to peer support member countries have requested in mobilizing action on Inland Water restoration and protection. Outcomes: Showcase of leading examples of T2, T3, T8, T14, T20, T21 for Freshwater / Inland Waters Build peer to peer learning between countries on facets of freshwater restoration planning. Share understanding of the global datasets and platforms that are available from UNEP, IUCN, FAO et al.
