The objective of the event is to highlight the relevance of the Escazú Agreement as a fundamental tool to prevent socio-environmental conflicts, reduce threats to biodiversity and human rights, expand civic spaces in environmental governance and facilitate the equitable distribution of the benefits of biodiversity. During the event, we will share the valuable lessons learned and experiences of the Escazú Now Network, the Mexican Environmental Law Centre, the World Commission on Environmental Law and FARN in relation to environmental human rights and access rights as catalysts for strategies to achieve the goals of the Global Biodiversity Framework. ECLAC's participation as secretariat of the Escazú Agreement will provide a space for knowledge on the prospects for the adoption of the agreement in the region. We will open a space for reflection on how the exercise of these rights favours the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework and on the relevance of integrating them into national biodiversity policies and strategies.
