“We are all future ancestors, challenged to renew the Earth for coming generations. This is humanity’s joint endeavor to save our common home.”

– Local Biodiversity Outlooks 2

The well-being of present and future generations is inherently tied to planetary and ecological health. This is affirmed by the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) in its Section C, stating that “The implementation of the Framework should be guided by the principle of intergenerational equity, which aims to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs and to ensure meaningful participation of younger generations in decision-making processes at all levels.”

In this side event, the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) will:

  • Launch its recent publications that provide relevant guidance and recommendations on Intergenerational Equity and Youth-responsive Monitoring for Biodiversity; and
  • Open a space for different actors to collectively explore how we can advance the application of intergenerational equity in the implementation and monitoring of the KMGBF.

Bringing together Parties, Indigenous Peoples, women, youth, civil society, UN agencies, and more, this opportunity aims to bridge diverse perspectives on how we can secure a livable and dignified future for all generations before it’s too late.
