A technical and scientific cooperation mechanism, comprising a network of regional and/or subregional support centres (TSCCs) coordinated by a global coordination entity (GCE), was adopted at COP15 (see paragraph 26 of decision 15/8 for core functions). This mechanism and associated centres aim to promote and facilitate cooperation among Parties to enable them to effectively utilise science, technology and innovation to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The European TSCC is based on a strategic partnership, mobilising three complementary host organisations:

• the European Commission through its Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (EC KCBD), co-chaired by DG ENV and the Joint Research Centre (JRC)
• the Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Med)
• the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS)

The Central Asia TSCC is hosted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (IUCN ECARO), in partnership with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).

This side event aims to present the European and of the Central Asia TSCC, their specific roles and functions, as well as the latest developments regarding their setting up (governance, roadmap, expected outputs, …). Representatives of both TSCC will engage with the audience for their feedback, and questions.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for Parties to familiarise themselves with their TSCC’s operational models, and to contribute to building a demand-driven interaction framework based on their capacity needs. Key institutions and organisations will have an opportunity to become involved and contribute to the TSCC efforts – either as suppliers or requesters of capacity support and knowledge.

The meeting will be held in a hybrid format to allow for a broader participation and a dynamic session of Q&A.
