This side event will focus on the forthcoming Protected Planet Report 2027, which will provide the next official, specific global assessment on KMGBF Target 3. CBD Parties have been invited to provide data to the World Database on Protected and Conserved Areas (WDPCA) and Global Database on Protected Area Management Effectiveness (GD-PAME) to inform the report. The event will provide an opportunity to discuss how to submit data before the deadline on 30th November and introduce the forms of support available to Parties from UNEP-WCMC, IUCN and WCPA. These are available to facilitate robust, comprehensive reporting by Parties, and include support from UNEP-WCMC for the compilation and formatting of data, and support from IUCN/ WCPA on interpreting and applying protected and conserved area standards, including IUCN management categories and the OECM criteria.

The side event will also explain the importance of ongoing reporting up to 2030 and beyond, and the relationship between Protected Planet and the information Parties submit via National Reports, including how reporting to Protected Planet can support the streamlined compilation of National Reports.
