Nature is declining at an unprecedented rate, prompting countries to commit to halting and reversing nature loss by 2030 through the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. In parallel, businesses across the globe are increasingly aware of the impact that nature can have on their bottom lines. The latest IPBES assessment shows the science is unequivocal: businesses and biodiversity are irrevocably interlinked.

Nature loss is translating into material risks for businesses and financial systems, reinforcing demand for credible, comparable and decision-useful information. At the same time, expectations from investors, regulators and governments for companies to assess, disclose and act on their nature-related impacts and dependencies are also rising.

A number of tools exist to support policymakers, businesses and financial institutions tackle this challenge. International and interoperable standards, consensus-based metrics and supporting methodologies will be critical to providing a shared foundation, enabling scale, and tracking progress over time.

This interactive session will bring together UN CBD Parties and key Observer organizations working to promote business action for nature to achieve multiple objectives:

  1. Explore how to reduce fragmentation across existing nature-related tools and approaches, and identify opportunities to improve alignment and interoperability for business use;
  2. Highlight how nature-related tools and metrics can better support NBSAPs and policy processes, including practical pathways for alignment between business, standards setters, and policymakers.

The transition to a nature-positive economy should be recognized as an investment rather than a cost. It’s an opportunity to drive sustainable growth, resilience, innovation, and long-term value creation. Working together we can scale up business action and implement Target 15 of the GBF.
