Biodiversity loss, climate change, and negative health outcomes, including pandemic risk, share common drivers: land-use change, agricultural intensification, and the unsustainable use of nature's resources. As Parties convene in Yerevan for the first global review of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), the case for action at the biodiversity-health interface has never been clearer. This 90-minute high-level side event will make the case that taking action for nature is also one of the most powerful ways to act on the world's most pressing health challenges, including the risk of future pandemics. The session will situate the environmental dimension of One Health squarely within the Global Action Plan on Biodiversity and Health (adopted at CBD COP16) and the KMGBF, and explore how science-based indicators can make implementation measurable through National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). A moderated panel will surface concrete dimensions of biodiversity-health action: ecosystem integrity and land-use; sustainable management of wildlife and the human-animal interface; Indigenous Peoples and Local Community stewardship; and whole-of-government, cross-sectoral governance. Country representatives and partner organisations will share lessons from implementation, including from countries under Phases I and II of the Nature 4 Health (N4H) Programme. Convened by UNEP's - N4H Program, a multi-partner initiative bringing together UNEP, the CBD Secretariat, UNDP, WHO, WOAH, IUCN, and Germany (BMUV), the event invites CBD National Focal Points, NBSAP focal points, donors, and the wider biodiversity community into a strategic conversation on the next chapter of nature-health action.
