The Food Systems Integrated Program (FSIP), led by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aims to catalyze the transition toward sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems across 32 countries. The Programme contributes directly to the implementation of several Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) Targets, particularly Targets 1, 2, 8 and 10, while also addressing emissions from the Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector. It supports transformational change by enabling countries, communities, and stakeholders to adopt sustainable practices, restore ecosystems and improve productivity in a more resilience landscape. Through integrated and whole-of-society approaches, FSIP helps align national agriculture economic priorities with global biodiversity and climate goals and leverages coordinated action to deliver measurable impacts for nature, climate, and people. Through 32 national projects, FSIP translates global commitments into concrete, integrated actions that strengthen value chains, leverage multi-stakeholders platforms, promotes intersectoral coordination and develop innovative governance frameworks and financial mechanism to leverage sustainable farming practices. Using a systemic approach based on inclusive spatial planning and effective management, the program promotes coordinated action across sectors and scales. The program is expected to: · Benefit 3.4 million people · Improve sustainable practices across at least 6.3 million hectares · Reduce 113 Million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions · Contribute to the restoration of 487,000 hectares of degraded land Objective: This side event aims to demonstrate how integrated agrifood systems transformation can effectively contribute to achieving the (KMGBF. By highlighting the linkages between sustainable food systems, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem restoration, it will showcase how coordinated actions across agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and aquaculture can halt and reverse biodiversity loss while delivering Inclusive and prosperous agrifood economies. It will further emphasize the role of initiatives such as the Food Systems, Land Use and Restoration Impact Program (FSIP) in supporting countries to achieve their NBSAPs. At the same time, the event seeks to create a platform for exchange among at least 4 participant countries, private sector partners and stakeholders to share practical experiences, identify key implementation challenges, and uncover opportunities for scaling up integrated approaches. Through dialogue among governments, financial institutions, and partners, it will promote key guidelines for stronger policy coherence, mobilize finance and private sector engagement, and foster whole-of-society engagement —particularly of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women, and youth—to support coordinated, impactful, and scalable agrifood integrated actions toward KMGBF implementation.
