Nature’s contributions to people are fundamental to human well-being and survival. Large, well‑connected, ecologically representative and effectively conserved and managed natural landscapes are nature‑based solutions that make significant contributions to global biodiversity outcomes, provide essential ecosystem services, such as for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and can generate development opportunities for indigenous peoples and local communities through sustainable use. The high-level side event will address how long-term conservation of natural landscapes in particular in key biodiversity rich regions can be secured through blended public-private funding, inclusive governance, integration of environmental and social safeguards into conservation management. The session explores the additionality and specific benefits of this long-term and programmatic funding approach for conservation impacts. Discussions will directly support implementation of GBF targets 3 and 19 as well as goals A and D as well as COP 17 deliberations on multiple topics. Ministers and high-level representatives will come together to create political momentum for the importance of legacy landscapes on the highest level, demonstrating leadership and commitment.
