National Clearing-House Mechanisms play a vital role in supporting the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) at the national level. These mechanisms facilitate access to biodiversity-related information, support informed decision-making, and enhance transparency.
The national CHMs serve as hubs for facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration among governments, researchers, indigenous peoples and local communities, NGOs, and the private sector. They are especially critical for implementation, and monitoring of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) by helping stakeholders access data, best practices, and progress reports.
A well-functioning national CHMs strengthen national capacities, foster coherence across sectors, and enable countries to meet their commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
