Side Events at SBSTTA 17 on Aichi Biodiversity Target 1

Below, you will find the presentations about Aichi Biodiversity Target 1 that were given during side events at the 17th meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA).

  • Inspiring a New Generation
“Vision25” is a future 25 years from now where the natural world is very much present in people’s lives; where children without concern run, play, climb a tree, and splash in a pond. There is only one pathway: Inspire the new generation and motivate them to action - actions that result in ‘experiences’ of nature – by moving ‘nature’ from being an ‘Abstract’ concept to a ‘Real’ experience.
  • Connecting People to Nature - Healthy Parks Healthy People
Healthy Parks Healthy People seeks to reinforce and encourage the connections between a healthy environment and a healthy society. Lead by the Australian park agency Parks Victoriait looks into the human health benefits of contact with nature.
  • Inspiring a New Generation (UN Decade on Biodiversity)
What do people know about biodiversity? Only if children develop a deep personal understanding of the natural world will they be motivated to care for the natural world later on in their life. The United Nations Decade on Biodiversity, among other things, aims to address the underlying causes of biodiversity loss by mainstreaming biodiversity across government and society to cause a change in behaviour.
