Dyer Island Conservation Trust

The Dyer Island Conservation Trust has been established for the conservation, rehabilitation and protection of the natural environment, including flora, fauna or the biosphere, the care of the wild animals, the promotion of, and the conducting of educational and training programs relating to environmental awareness, greening and clean-up projects, and conservation research. Responsible for the African penguin nesting project, the Trust is also involved with research of the great white shark, the whales, dolphins, seals and seabirds of the Gansbaai area (Western Cape), while also investing in a craft project and other community initiatives.

Moving Sushi is a platform for addressing major issues surrounding the status of marine resources. The Moving Sushi team, of talented young scientists, entrepreneurs, photographers, film-makers and social media specialists, aims to contribute to the global understanding and awareness of our marine resources and to the sustainable use thereof, through promoting networking and collaborative efforts relating to marine conservation, and improving public awareness by gathering and making available scientific information, and by disseminating information openly to relevant management, societal and research bodies. Through a series of cross-boundary marine-based scientific expeditions, Moving Sushi aims to bring together science, novel technologies, society and multiple media platforms, to gather scientific data, develop and improve techniques for surveying biological communities and disseminate high quality data.

Afrikaans hieronder - WhatSpecies’ is a biodiversity network for the general public and was launched in 2014. WhatSpecies’ goal is to create a bigger awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity by providing the general public with a niche social networking platform on which to keep track of what species they have observed in their lifetime, and to share their observations with others. WhatSpecies further provides its users with the opportunity to help each other identify unknown observations and to share their knowledge and experience of nature with the rest of the community. WhatSpecies is self-funded with additional and more unique functionality to be rolled out in 2015.

Afrikaans - WhatSpecies is ‘n nuwe biodiversiteitsnetwerk wat in 2014 geloods is vir die algemene publiek. WhatSpecies se doel is om ‘n groter bewustheid van die belangrikheid van die bewaring van biodiversiteit te skep. Dit word gedoen deur ‘n sosiale network platform daar te stel waar gebruikers rekord kan hou van al die spesies wat hulle in hul leeftyd waargeneem het, en waar hul waarnemings met ander gebruikers gedeel kan word. WhatSpecies bied gebruikers ook verder die geleentheid om mekaar te help om ongeïdentifiseerde waarnemings te identifiseer en om hul kennis en ervaring van die natuur met mekaar ted eel. WhatSpecies word self-befonds en addisionele, opwindende funksionaliteit word in 2015 bekendgestel.
