More than sixteen years after UNCTAD launched the BioTrade Initiative with the aim of promoting trade and investment in biodiversity as a means of furthering sustainable development, a number of countries, regions and national and international stakeholders have made remarkable progress in embracing BioTrade concepts and principles as integral parts of their strategies. BioTrade is currently implementing 8 national programmes in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

It is a professional institution under public law established by Decree Law Nº 19364 (18-04-72), which includes biologists of Perú graduates and graduates from universities in Peru and abroad, under Law Nº 28847 Labour Law the biologist and Regulations. Its governing body is the National Council and chairs the National Dean and members of the National Board and the deans of the 20 regional councils throughout Perú.
