The Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB) was launched by the Biodiversity Foundation (belonging to the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge) in 2013. The initiative provides a solid cooperation framework for private sector and the government to join efforts towards improving and maintaining Spain’s natural capital. Its main objectives are to help integrate biodiversity into business policy and management, to promote and highlight the contribution of companies to the conservation of the natural environment and to channel private funding to biodiversity conservation projects. After 10 years of work, significant progress by the private sector and the adoption of the new Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, in 2023 the IEEB set up a new phase to adapt to the new regulatory context, increase the ambition of the commitment made by its members, fight against greenwashing and facilitate the participation of SMEs.

The Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative counts on the support of strategic partners: Club de Excelencia en Sostenibilidad, Forética, Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations, Fundación Global Natur, Spanish Green Growth Group, Spainsif, and Women Action Sustainability.

To become a leading public-private partnership platform to halt and reverse the loss of nature.

Mission
Promoting the integration of nature into business models in order to encourage the private sector to participate in the restoration and conservation of the natural heritage.

Objectives

• Guide the private sector on how to integrate nature into decision making.
• Showcase the contribution of Spanish companies towards the restoration and conservation or nature.
