Introduction

The United Nations General Assembly, by its resolution 55/201 of 20 December 2000, proclaimed 22 May as The International Day for Biological Diversity, to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. For the year 2015, the theme Biodiversity for Sustainable Development was chosen to reflects the importance of efforts made at all levels to mainstream biodiversity with sustainable development.

The IDB Dialogue on International Financing for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (21-22 May 2015), is to provide opportunities for Parties to be better informed on the various programmes and initiatives by multilateral and bilateral donor agencies related to the implementation of the Conventions and its Protocols. A representative of the respective agency has been invited to be available to interact with the interested stakeholders on 21-22 May 2015 on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity.

The dialogue is in response to several requests from the Conference of the Parties, including paragraph 32(d) of decision XII/3. It aims to provide a global platform for key stakeholders and funding partners to share funding information, experiences and perspectives, including pertinent funding programmes and initiatives and associated good practices and lessons learned, as well as on how to track and report biodiversity-related funding.

A webpage has been provided for each interested donor Party, multilateral and bilateral agency to provide an update on recent developments, demonstrate examples of biodiversity projects funded in 2014-2015, and highlight their biodiversity-related funding policies and programmes.
