Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
In April 2012, the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) was established. The members of the platform (IPBES is an independent intergovernmental body open to all member countries of the United Nations) are committed to building IPBES as the leading intergovernmental body for assessing the state of the planet's biodiversity, its ecosystems and the essential services they provide to society.
CBD Decisions related to IPBES:
In its decision 16/11, the Conference of the Parties requested the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice to consider the outputs of the platform according to a schedule annexed to the decision. It also requested the Executive Secretary to make this schedule available on the website of the Convention.
The schedule of assessments of IPBES and of their consideration under the CBD (2024-2030), as updated after the twelfth session of the Plenary of the Platform, is:
