Linkages between Priority Actions of the Island Biodiversity Programme of Work and Other Thematic Work Programmes and Cross-cutting Issues under CBD

Pursuant to paragraph 10 of decision VIII/1, requesting the Executive Secretary to identify linkages between the priority actions of the island biodiversity programme of work and all other thematic work programmes and cross-cutting issues under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and to make this available prior to the twelfth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 12), a document entitled Linkages between Priority Actions of the Island Biodiversity Programme of Work and Other Thematic Work Programmes and Cross-cutting Issues under CBD has been prepared and is available here.

Expanding on an initial paper prepared by the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Island Biodiversity, the document aims to relate the most relevant actions in the island biodiversity programme of work to other activities, principles and recommendations of significant other programmes, as they reinforce each other. By design, the island biodiversity programme of work contains goals and activities from other work programmes of the CBD applying to island biodiversity (in particular in small island developing States and States with islands). Therefore, in implementing the island biodiversity programme of work, Parties are contributing to other programmes of work and to cross-cutting issues. Similarly, all thematic programmes of work and cross-cutting issues in the CBD also apply to islands. Thus, for reporting purposes, the same documents can be considered under the island biodiversity programme of work and other relevant programmes of work.
