Fisheries and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework: strengthening engagement across fishery value chains, from catch to consumers
This webinar was part of the
Communities of Practice Webinar Series, hosted by the CBD Secretariat to support the implementation of of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the mainstreaming of biodiversity within and across sectors.
As part of the response to
decision 16/13, this webinar focused on best practices and lessons learned in mainstreaming biodiversity in the
fisheries sector, with an emphasis on strengthening engagement across fisheries value chains, from catch to consumers.
Jointly organized by the CBD Secretariat, the
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the
Fisheries Expert Group of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management (IUCN/CEM/FEG), this webinar was framed through the lens of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), including linkages across multiple targets and with particular attention to targets 5, 9, 10 and 15.
The webinar explored how fisheries actors, and in particular the private sector, can better align with and actively contribute to the effective implementation of the Framework. The webinar brought together organizations and initiatives already working to engage the fisheries sector, discuss available tools and learning materials, and identify opportunities to strengthen collaboration.

- Best practices and practical experiences for engaging actors across fisheries value chains in the KMGBF;
- Challenges and opportunities for strengthening private sector engagement;
- Approaches to reducing negative impacts on biodiversity, increasing positive impacts, and reducing biodiversity-related risks in the fisheries sector;
- Knowledge-sharing, including existing tools, case studies, and learning materials.
