The demands for ‘net zero’ emissions have gained momentum in the past couple of years following The Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C released by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2018. The report had concluded that global emissions needed to reach net zero around mid-century to give a reasonable chance of limiting warming to 1.5ºC.
