Scientists have identified a previously unknown blue whale song, suggesting that a distinct population had long gone undetected. Back in 2017, researchers were recording the chatter of Omura’s whales off the coast of Madagascar when they picked up the powerful song of another species: the blue whale, the largest animal to ever live on the planet and one of the loudest.
