I am pleased to inform you that, at the kind invitation of the Government of Brazil, the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 8) will be held in Curitiba, Brazil from 20 to 31 March 2006. The meeting will be preceded by the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Biosafety Protocol (COP-MOP/3), from 13 to 17 March 2006 to be held at the same venue. In this regard, I have the honour to invite representatives of bodies or agencies, whether governmental or non-governmental, qualified in fields relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, to participate as observers in the above-mentioned meetings.
