Fifth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and Related Provisions (WG8J 5)

Traditional indigenous diets and lifestyles tend to protect against chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease and diabetes. However, encrouchments on indigenous land and resources undermine access to these foods, and thus the food security of Indigenous Peoples. This session will discuss food security indicators for Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Peoples' right to adequate food. It will be held by Harriet Kuhnlein, Founding Director of the Centre for Indigenous Peoples' Nutrition and Environment (CINE), McGill University Montreal, and Siri Damman, Visiting Scholar from the International Project on the Right to Food in Development at the Norwegian Center for Human Rights and Department of Nutrition, University of Oslo, Norway
